Happy Friday afternoon,

In Springfield, more than 20 license-plate reader cameras are up — but not yet running, police say. They said the city needed to get the camera installation done to meet a grant deadline, but the much-debated technology would not be activated for criminal investigations “until a broader community discussion takes place.” Jaime Adame has the story.

It’s final. State officials confirm negotiations with PacificSource are kaput, over its coverage of 90,000 Oregon Health Plan members in Lane County. The state says it will find a new insurance provider starting next year to administer Medicaid coverage locally. Ashli Blow continues her coverage of this issue.

Lane Regional Air Protection Agency has issued an air-pollution permit for an e-commerce distribution facility proposed near Eugene Airport. Michael Zhang reports.

Crosstown high school football rivals Sheldon and Willamette square off at 7 tonight at Willamette High School. Mark Baker previews the game, and this one has a twist: seven players lining up for Willamette tonight were actually playing for Sheldon last season. (Stay tuned for a deeper look at the issue of high school sports transfers early next week.)

Move-in for new UO students was underway the past couple of days. Our latest Look Around from Isaac Wasserman captures an incoming student and her dad shopping for Ducks gear at Hirons.

Suppose you like keeping up on what your neighbors are thinking. In that case, we’ve got a couple of new letters to the editor today: one supporting a fire district levy and one decrying uncouth behavior by county commissioners.
