Good evening,
During 2024, more people moved into Lane County from other states than any other county in Oregon. As our friends at the Oregon Journalism Project report, the new census data show we are one of 15 counties that saw positive migration numbers that year. However, 20 counties, led by Multnomah County, lost residents to other states. Only Wallowa County stayed flat.
There are likely fewer whales to watch during Whale Watching Week in Oregon than there used to be. Climate change is likely the cause. The Oregon Capital Chronicle reports that scientists estimate the eastern North Pacific gray whale population was at its lowest number last year since the 1970s.
Homegrown fruit, produce and herbs shouldn’t only be for those with space for a garden, right? As part of our Spring Garden Guide, John Fischer has tips for those who want to boast about having a green thumb but live in a small space: think container garden.
The Ducks men’s basketball team keeps shedding players. First, it was forward Kwame Evans Jr. entering the transfer portal, then it was guard and Oregon native Jackson Shelstad. Tyson Alger recaps what it means for the team’s roster in his latest Duck Report, which is only a little bit depressing.
And a note for what I imagine is the small number of readers who are big enough Formula 1 fans to watch practice: the series is in Japan this weekend, which means FP1 is tonight at 7:30 p.m.
