Heather Buch has been a stellar county commissioner for east Lane County, but now she’s being challenged by two extremists. Political consultant Jake Pelroy, who supported David Loveall’s campaign four years ago, has taken some meaty donations from Ed King, the winery king of Lorane who also wants to be the gravel quarry king of Oakridge. Buch is also being challenged by Bob Zybach, a forest scientist endorsed by radio wing-nut Lars Larson.

Both of Buch’s opponents are single-issue players. Zybach’s platform is all about cutting more timber in Lane County, while Pelroy has come out against modernizing the waste and recycling industry in Lane County, an industry dominated by his friends and family. In fact, Pelroy’s website barely makes any mention of a platform, priorities or issues, as if he doesn’t have any ideas he’s willing to share with the voters.

Buch, meanwhile, has supported accessible health care in south Lane County, affordable housing up Highway 126 and improved sheriff response time throughout rural Lane County, not to mention the myriad other issues she’s worked on as our county commissioner.

So voters have a choice in May: Pelroy or Zybach, each with one idea, or commissioner Heather Buch, who has already proven that she can put many ideas into action for east Lane County residents.
