Good evening,
A murder case, stemming from a fatal shooting in December 2024 at a remote property in the Coast Range, ended today in a mistrial. The presiding juror told Lookout reporter Jaime Adame that jurors, after three days of deliberations, were split 8-4, and “nobody was able to budge from what they believed,” she said. Prosecutors said they will seek to retry Everett Fuller, 57, who testified he fatally shot Christopher Lee Clark Jr. in self defense.
City of Oakridge officials declared a state of emergency this morning after they discovered untreated sewage had spilled into a stormwater system and flowed into the Middle Fork Willamette River, Lillian Schrock-Clevenger reports. Officials said the problem was fixed later in the day and that no immediate threats to drinking water were evident.

Travel Oregon — the state’s tourism promotion agency — has a new boss: Kate Sinner, a longtime Salem insider. She replaces the agency’s former boss, the embattled Todd Davidson. Our partners at Oregon Journalism Project explain.
Brandon Daniel Smith, who pleaded guilty to killing Haley Mackin, was sentenced today to 23 years in prison. Smith shot Mackin outside a home in Eugene’s Bethel-Danebo neighborhood in September 2024, after the two had been involved in an “on-again, off-again” relationship for about a year. Jaime Adame has the story.
Jaime also reports that Martin Grant Tierney, 63, of Veneta was arrested and booked into jail Wednesday on suspicion of fatally shooting his son.
