Good evening,
“Back in the old days,” as I say to my teenagers (who will generally find whatever follows to be hilarious), newspapers used to publish the big year-end edition, rounding up all the big news and events of the past 12 months. Remember that? It was mostly a way to get off the hook from writing anything new that day.
Well, the modern corollary of this is Spotify Wrapped and Apple Music Replay, wherein these music streaming services tell you about your listening habits for the year gone by. And today was the big day when they were released to us. So, Annie Aguiar made us all cough up our results. Check it out if you want to see what sort of people, musically, you are dealing with here at Lookout.
On to the rest of today’s news:
The Lane County sheriff went before county commissioners today to talk about how thinly stretched his deputies can be. The county is considering ways to ask voters for additional law enforcement funding. Ben Botkin reports.
Ben also wrote about the county and Eugene’s efforts to figure out a long-term strategy to increase the supply of housing and available land for expansion. The planning work will take years.
In our opinion section:
Letter-to-the-editor writer Glenn Smith, a veteran, takes offense with President Donald Trump’s threats against those who said soldiers have a duty to disobey unlawful orders, and he cites an example from his own service.
