Good evening,
Our food writer Taylor Goebel has a new installment of “On the Fly,” wherein she rounds up bits and bites of news from the area food scene: for instance, the local brewery Arable is closing, and another local brewery, Claim 52, is opening a new location in the old Rogue pub on the bay in Newport — and other tasty stuff. Go check it out.
The high school basketball season is nearing its conclusion. Only one local team is still alive in the boys state championship tournament. The Thurston Colts will face Canby on Saturday morning in the consolation bracket to try to secure fourth place. Mike McInally has the roundup.
Antonio Alex Parks, who used to work on the University of Oregon football staff, was sentenced to three years of probation on domestic violence charges. During the hearing, his partner told a judge the abuse had a “profound and lasting impact” on her. Parks is listed as being currently on the football staff of Louisiana State University. Jaime Adame reports.
Officers, with help from a police dog named Kuill, apprehended a man Wednesday evening who was reported to be threatening people with a knife in downtown Eugene. David Glen Clark, 40, was booked into jail. Jaime has this story as well.
In our opinion section today, a couple of letters:
- One touts the work of Lane County Commissioner Heather Buch, saying she’s a better choice than challenger Jake Pelroy.
- Another expresses bewilderment that Los Angeles would want the problematic electric buses LTD is unloading on them.
