Good evening,

Activists last night used flowers to weave messages of protest — such as “ICE out” — into the new fence around the Eugene Federal Building. But the words stayed up only overnight and were removed sometime around 8:30 this morning.

I try to exercise my philosophical objection to writing about football in springtime, but no dice. So: The rivalry will be resurrected, football fans. Tyson Alger reports that while there won’t be a Ducks-Beavers matchup this fall or next, the teams have agreed to do battle at least four more times: in Corvallis in 2028, then in Eugene in 2029 and 2031, and again in Corvallis in 2032. Lots of time to plan your tailgate menu and start in with any intra-family trash talking.

In other types of rivalry, state Sen. Christine Drazan won the GOP gubernatorial primary last week and wasted no time launching into her general election campaign against Gov. Tina Kotek. On paper, it’s a rematch of four years ago. But the landscape has changed. Our friends at Oregon Capital Chronicle have a look ahead at what Drazan said will be “a bruising race.” So either grit your teeth or start making popcorn, depending on how you like your political campaigns.
