Good evening,
Eugene Police Chief Chris Skinner said today he learned that a Flock Safety license-plate reader camera had started collecting data even though the city had asked the company to “pause” the cameras. Flock said it was the inadvertent result of maintenance work on the camera. But Skinner said it was reason enough to end its contract with Flock. Jaime Adame reports.
The Eugene City Council voted today to set aside $50,000 that could potentially be spent later to help people affected by immigration enforcement activity in the city — for instance, aiding families who have lost a main breadwinner to an ICE arrest. Grace Chinowsky has the story.
A search continued today for a man presumed to be lost in rugged woods south of Mapleton. Erik Everardo Aguilar-Cisneros had been mushroom hunting and was reported missing on Saturday, sheriff’s officials said.
The City Club of Eugene on Friday will discuss the future of the Lane Events Center, formerly known as the Lane County Fairgrounds.
