Good evening,

We love “processing” our differences here in Eugene, don’t we? In fact, Eugene City Council wants to hear from you — again — on two controversial land-use proposals.

First, the council called for another public hearing on changes the University of Oregon is proposing in part of the Fairmount neighborhood known as East Campus. UO wants city code to allow taller buildings and dorms, among other changes. Some neighbors aren’t thrilled. But because UO revised its proposal after an earlier round of public comment closed, the council decided they should open things up again so people can speak to the new plan. Grace Chinowsky has the details.

The council also wants a new public hearing on a proposal that would change oversight of industrial development in town — and how it might affect the health of nearby residents. The Public Health Standards Project — which has grown out of the J.H. Baxter mess — has produced some tension between the business and environmental communities. Ashli Blow reports on the status of that proposal.

The Ducks men’s basketball team reached the end of the road today with a 70-60 loss to Maryland in the first round of the Big Ten tournament. Lookout sports correspondent Tyson Alger is hard at work “processing” this defeat right now, so check for his story later tonight on the Lookout website.

Our partner Oregon Journalism Project has an interview with Oregon State University robotics professor Jonathan Hurst, who has spun off a company that builds AI robots. Called Agility Robotics, it is among the best-funded startups in Oregon history, currently valued at $2.5 billion.

And we have a new slice-of-life photograph from Isaac Wasserman today: a perfect distillation of the colors of almost-spring Eugene: hot pink magnolia blooms and a many-shades-of-gray sky.
