The chair of the Springfield school board cut off a woman who was speaking during the public comment period at a board meeting this week, telling her, “I’m not sure that it’s appropriate for the board to hear those matters.” Lilly St. Angelo was at the meeting and has the story.

After Eugene and Springfield cut ties on Friday with Flock Safety, the provider of license-plate reader technology, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office followed suit today and bailed on Flock as well. Jaime Adame reports.

Loved ones celebrated the life of Jean “Fritz” Pierre Louis, 74, who died in the woods near Oakridge, where he had apparently gone to hunt for mushrooms. He was remembered for his gentle spirit and love of nature. Michael Zhang attended.

Well, the internet freaked out a little this week because Justin Herbert, the Eugene-raised former Ducks star and now NFL star, was perceived to be mildly rude for a moment to an ESPN reporter on national TV. But, hey, that’s what the internet does best: freak out. Sportswriter Tyson Alger weighs in on the hubbub.

Also in sports, Eugene’s new professional soccer franchise, Sporting Cascades FC, which announced its formation in July and intends to play home games at Civic Park, said it will delay its debut for a year.
