Good evening,

Chuck Kesey, who together with his wife, Sue, founded Springfield Creamery and created the iconic Nancy’s Yogurt brand, died Monday at age 86. It had been less than three months since Sue’s death. The two had been married 65 years. Chuck Kesey was also the brother of author Ken Kesey.

Another iconic Eugene food brand is in the news: Euphoria Chocolate has new owners. They say they want to get back to the basics, but also have big plans to make the factory into a Willy Wonka sort of tourist destination.

A day after ICE arrests were reported in Eugene and Cottage Grove, 13 Oregon elected officials expressed alarm at the raids. And Eugene’s police auditor is investigating reports that Eugene police officers were involved in some detentions, although an EPD spokesperson said that was not the case.

A retired school teacher in Eugene has written a guest column on the federal government shutdown. “There are no winners in this foolish game,” he writes, suggesting that what the American people might prefer is for politicians to just make a deal.
