A 52-year-old man died Tuesday, Sept. 1, when he was struck by a vehicle while walking at night on Highway 126 in the Veneta area, Oregon State Police said.
Robert Bryan Richardson, a Veneta resident, died at the scene, state police said.
Police responded at about 9:15 p.m. to the crash, just over a mile east of Territorial Highway.
A silver Toyota Tacoma pickup, driven by Christian McCawley, 24, of Elmira, was westbound when it struck Richardson, who was walking west in the westbound lane, State Police said.
Police said that stretch of roadway is unlit, and that Richardson was wearing dark-colored clothing. The collision affected highway traffic for about two hours, state police said.
