A 38-year-old man died Sunday, May 3 and another motorcyclist was seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 126 near Florence.
In a news release Tuesday, Oregon State Police officials identified the victim as Brandon Taylor Oetken of Florence.
State Police said Oetken was riding a Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail motorcycle at 1:54 p.m. Sunday on the highway near Rose Hill Road when he collided with a Volvo 240 that had stopped in the eastbound lane to turn left into a mobile home park.
The collision knocked Oetken to the ground. Another Harley-Davidson motorcycle, operated by John Carlos Moreno, 65, of Florence, then struck the rear of Oetken’s motorcycle. Moreno lost control of his motorcycle, which slid about 150 feet before coming to a stop.
Passersby stopped to render aid to the riders, the news release said. Oetken was declared dead at the scene. Moreno was transported to an area hospital.
The driver of the Volvo, Lorna Marie Trujillo, 50, of Florence, was transported to an area hospital complaining of pain.
Traffic on Highway 126 was affected for about an hour during the investigation.
Troopers were assisted by Western Lane Fire and Rescue, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, the Lane County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
