The Autzen Canoe Canal Footbridge will close again Tuesday, May 5, as the University of Oregon continues upgrading its athletic facilities.
The footbridge is expected to be closed for about three weeks, Eugene officials said Monday in a news release. The time will allow workers to finish repairs and replace the deficient girder that crews found in March.
The footbridge is expected to be permanently opened with all repairs completed by May 24.
Meanwhile, the nearby Lot 8 parking lot will remain closed through August for improvements. Plans call for the lot to be enlarged and paved to become an all-season parking area.
Access to the Alton Baker Dog Park and Canoe Canal Boat Launch will not be available at Lot 8 through August. Dog park users can use the parking lot at Alton Baker Park off Club Road or the city parking lot near the Science Center. Canoe Canal users can use the access point at the West D Boat Ramp in Springfield or the primary Alton Baker Park parking lot, which requires a short boat carry to the pond.
