The state is investigating the death of a worker at a machine shop in Glenwood, a spokesperson for the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Administration said Friday, Jan. 23.

The employee sustained injuries Thursday from a metal lathe at Myrmo & Sons, 3600 Franklin Boulevard, Lane County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tim Wallace said. Medics transported the worker to the hospital, Wallace said.

“We don’t suspect anything criminal occurred,” Wallace said Friday.

Dispatch records show emergency personnel were called a few minutes after 10 a.m. Thursday to the shop.

Oregon OSHA lists on its website a brief description of initial workplace fatality reports as reported to the agency. The preliminary injury description states the worker died from a “caught in”-type of injury.

For 2023, the most recent year with data available, the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics reported 42 fatal work injuries in Oregon, excluding workplace homicides and suicides.
