A 25-year-old Eugene man was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to more than a half-dozen car thefts and a hit-and-run collision that injured a woman riding a bicycle.
Steven Ronald Fischer Jr. drove a stolen Chevrolet Silverado truck May 20 eastbound on East 15th Avenue in Eugene and struck a 40-year-old woman riding south on High Street in a protected bicycle lane, police said after his June 1 arrest.
The woman required multiple surgeries and was likely to need years of physical therapy, police said.
Fischer pleaded guilty Aug. 11 to seven counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle, including unauthorized use of a red Chevrolet Silverado, as well as failure to perform duties of a driver to a seriously injured person and third-degree assault in connection with the hit-and-run, among other charges.
Fischer earlier pleaded guilty to another count of unauthorized use of a vehicle. He also pleaded guilty to drug charges and being a felon in possession of a restricted weapon, a dagger.
Lane County Circuit Judge Nathan Lichvarcik ordered the 10-year sentence, to be followed by three years of post-prison supervision.
