A deputy sustained a major cut Friday, July 31, after responding to a reported assault of a convenience store employee by a man who allegedly then left and menaced others in Glenwood, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office said.

Douglas Alvin Haley, 40, of Springfield, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree criminal mischief, burglary, robbery, unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest, among other charges, according to Lane County Jail records.

Deputies responded shortly after 11 a.m. to the 4200 block of Franklin Boulevard, with one deputy sustaining injuries while making entry to a second location where Haley is alleged to have broken out a glass window, entered a building and barricaded the door. 

“Deputies could see Haley was visibly agitated. Despite being injured, the deputy continued to engage Haley until he was detained,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

A tourniquet was applied to the deputy who was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. The deputy was in stable condition and recovering, the sheriff’s office said Friday.
