The Lane County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a man who reportedly displayed a handgun at a school bus stop with children present in Glenwood on the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 13.
A news release Tuesday stated that a gun had reportedly fallen out of an unknown man’s backpack during a physical dispute with people at 7 a.m. at a bus stop at East 14th and Lexington avenues.
After a sheriff’s office investigation — which included gathering surveillance video from a nearby business — deputies now have probable cause to arrest the man on suspicion of menacing, unlawfully using a weapon and other charges, according to a statement Wednesday.
The sheriff’s office on Wednesday provided new information, saying a group of mothers initially confronted the “suspicious” man, who reportedly “menaced one of the victims with a handgun.” A person at the bus stop reportedly grabbed the gun, which at some point fell to the ground, the sheriff’s office said.
The man reportedly punched and hit others with a backpack before a nearby resident hit the man with a baseball bat and he fled “to a nearby residence,” according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office has only “limited” information about the man’s identity. Anyone with information about the man’s identity or whereabouts may call 541-682-4150 Option 1 and reference Case No. 26-0192.
