A passenger in a utility-terrain vehicle died when it rolled over on Monday, Oct. 20, near Triangle Lake, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office said.

Emergency personnel responded at about 5 p.m. to BLM Road 16-7-30, also known as Fish Creek Road, roughly 25 miles west of Junction City. A utility-terrain vehicle, or UTV, is similar to, but larger than, an all-terrain vehicle.

The male passenger died at the scene, the sheriff’s office said Tuesday. On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office identified him as 41-year-old Joseph Christian Matthew Schreiber, of Vancouver, Washington.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested the vehicle’s driver, 49-year-old Walter Frederick Rogers, of Gresham, on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The crash investigation will be forwarded to the Lane County District Attorney for other criminal charges to be considered, the sheriff’s office said. The sheriff’s office said the passenger was not wearing a helmet.
