A collision involving as many as nine vehicles shut down Interstate 5 south of Eugene near Goshen for roughly three hours Tuesday, July 29, according to the Oregon State Police and online traffic information from the Oregon Department of Transportation.
An Oregon State Police spokesperson said the collision took place at about 8 a.m., but by 11:16 a.m. the roadway opened up to some traffic, according to an update posted online by the ODOT.
At 1:47 p.m., the Department of Transportation told drivers to still be ready to slow down or move for worker safety, but only one northbound lane was said to be affected.
The roadway closure earlier in the morning affected all northbound and southbound lanes, with updates posted at 8:48 a.m., 9:44 a.m. and 10:44 a.m. stating that the crash had closed the highway.Â
A State Police spokesperson said the crash was reported at milepost 186. The collision possibly resulted in a fatality, according to the State Police, with information about other injuries not yet available.
