An investigation by Eugene police has resulted in federal charges against a Connecticut man after parents reported that their elementary school child was sharing sexually explicit photos online.
A police detective identified the suspect as 22-year-old Sean Sayer of Naugatuck, Connecticut, according to a statement Monday from Eugene police.
The child’s parents in March discovered a social media correspondence between their child and “an adult male gamer,” along with the sharing of explicit photos, police said.
Eugene police shared case information with the FBI, leading to an arrest of Sayer. As of last week, the investigation by an FBI Child Exploitation Task Force has found more than 40 potential victims, according to the Eugene police statement.
A Eugene police spokesperson said none of the other suspected victims is from Lane County and provided tips for protecting kids online.
Sayer is suspected of producing child pornography and coercing a minor, among other charges, according to a June 12 criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Connecticut.
