The City Club of Eugene’s meeting Friday, Feb. 27, features a discussion of the roles, responsibilities and ethical obligations of public governing boards — and the common pitfalls those boards face.
The program, “Effective Public Governance Boards,” begins at noon Friday at WOW Hall, 291 W. Eighth Ave. City Club meetings are free to attend.
Panelists will share insights drawn from real-world experiences and discuss ways to improve board culture, decision-making and transparency.
Featured speakers include:
- John H. Brown, who has served as a commissioner on the Eugene Water & Electric Board of directors since 2007 and is a principal with Evans, Elder, Brown & Seubert, a commercial real estate brokerage.
- Randy Groves, a Eugene city councilor now serving his second term. Before his election to the council in 2020, he served for more than 36 years with the Eugene and Springfield fire departments, the last 10 as department chief.
- Emielle Nischik, the executive director of the Oregon School Boards Association, which assists school districts with governance support, member services, advocacy and the PACE insurance program.
The meeting will include an opportunity for audience questions.
The program will be livestreamed on the City Club of Eugene’s YouTube channel. City Club meetings are rebroadcast Mondays at 7 p.m. on KLCC, 89.7 FM, and are posted as an episode of the club’s podcast.
The club explores local, state and national issues and helps formulate new approaches and solutions. Membership is open to all.
