Two speakers will examine how mandates from the federal government are reshaping diversity, equity and inclusion efforts — known as DEI — and explore the long-term implications when the City Club of Eugene meets Friday, July 25.

The meeting begins at noon at WOW Hall, 291 W. Eighth Ave., Eugene. Club meetings are free to attend.

Friday’s program, “Finding Imperfect Allies: The Future of DEI,” will focus on how agencies and advocates are interpreting and responding to guidelines issued by the Trump administration, which in some cases have tied funding to reducing or eliminating DEI programs.

Remie Calalang, assistant superintendent of the Bethel School District, will discuss the impacts in education settings and examine the responses of school districts to the federal mandates.

The other speaker, Anna Lardner, is a transgender woman, social worker and community activist in Eugene. She will spotlight how grassroots organizations are building coalitions with partners to sustain DEI efforts in challenging political landscapes.

Friday’s program will be live-streamed on the club’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. Club meetings also are rebroadcast at 7 p.m. the Monday following the Friday meeting on KLCC, 89.7 FM.

Friday’s meeting is the last program of the club’s 2024-25 season. The club’s next meeting, featuring Eugene Mayor Kaarin Knudson, is scheduled for Sept. 5.
