Provisions

Is there anything more comforting or delicious on a cold or rainy day than French onion soup? The 5th Street Public Market location of Provisions serves comfort by the bowl when their seasonal soup returns in October and stays through spring. For $9, diners get a bowl of brothy soup with slow-cooked onions and soft bread covered with cheese, with slices of fresh bread on the side.

Costco

Fall means Costco’s famous pumpkin pie is back. Weighing in at 58 ounces (that’s 3 pounds, 10 ounces) for just $5.99, you can have a slice of pie with coffee for breakfast for a week. Or, you know … maybe serve some to your guests.

Costco.com has other seasonal treats, too, such as the Halloween Boo Box ($34.99) filled with sweets from Sugar Plum Chocolates. The chocolate company sent a sampler box to the Lookout office, where the goodies didn’t last long. The box comes with three different chocolate-covered pretzels, caramel corn with chocolate orange and black drizzle, two milk chocolate-covered graham crackers, a 4-ounce bag of tangy orange sour candy balls, a white candy pop in the shape of a ghost and two milk chocolate-covered sandwich cookies.

Salt & Straw

Salt & Straw, the ice cream shop in Eugene near Oakway Center, is known for seasonal ingredients and innovative flavors, so it’s no surprise they go above and beyond for fall and Halloween. The October menu includes The Great Candycopia, which is salted butterscotch ice cream loaded with candy pieces. Jack O’Lantern Pumpkin Bread tastes like the best baked good treat with a cream cheese frosting ripple ($12 pints).

Sip Champagne and Dessert Bar

Stop in to Sip for the ultimate in pumpkin-spice season, with a cozy twist: Pumpkin Spice Brûléed Lattes ($7.50) first came onto the scene four years ago, and they are back. Sip does it with house-made pumpkin-spiced purée mixed into a double shot of espresso and steamed milk. It’s all covered with a caramelized sugar top that you need to crack with a spoon. In addition, Sip has a line of fall cocktails including the Pumpkin Espressotini and Pumpkin Mimosas.

Perugino

Warm apple cider is the quintessential fall drink, and you can get it by the cup at Perugino ($3.90, 12 ounces) now that it’s starting to get chilly. Perugino’s version doesn’t have any fancy garnishes, no mix-ins, no cinnamon stick stirrers, no flavored rim. It’s just deliciously spiced warm apple cider with a mug you can wrap your hands around to embrace the season.

Metropol Bakery

Metropol is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Its offerings don’t rush the season as early as some other bakeries do, so as of early October they didn’t have fall-specific treats. But the Budapest coffee cake ($6.25), made with currants and lots of cinnamon, is available year-round.
