QuickTake:

Hop Valley collaborates with UO on a new IPA, known as Dang Green, released at a launch party at Autzen Stadium.

Dang Green IPA beer release

The University of Oregon launched the Ducks’ first official craft beer at Autzen Stadium in conjunction with Hop Valley Brewing on Thursday, Aug. 21. The partners hosted Dang Green Field Day, a preseason launch party celebrating Dang Green IPA. Guests got to sample the first production batch of Dang Green, less than 48 hours after it left the hopper.

The field day party also gave guests the chance to purchase custom Ducks merch, take photos, and talk with special guest and former Duck De’Anthony Thomas, who went on to play for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens. Ducks sideline reporter Joey McMurry, announcer Jerry Allen and analyst Mike Jorgensen talked about their predictions for the upcoming season. Plus, guests had an opportunity to step onto the field as the team finished practice.

Hop Valley is the official craft beer of the Oregon Ducks, and the latest contract between the two parties allowed them to collaborate on a branded beer, said Megan McKenna, Hop Valley’s senior brand manager.

“This is the first collab here with the university. It’s never happened before, with the logo on the can and everything” McKenna said. “We’ve been working with them really closely since the spring.”

The Ducks were known as Gang Green in the mid-1990s, and the beer’s name Dang Green is a play on that.

Kayla Mack, Hop Valley’s sales manager for the area covering Eugene to Medford, described the beer as “a 7% American-style, really easy-drinking IPA” with some stone fruit notes.

Mack said the Dang Green beer, in the eye-catching Ducks green can, will be available in Safeway, Albertsons, Fred Meyer and many local convenience stores in the area.

“Bars and restaurants will be carrying it as soon as next week,” Mack said.

Halibut and chicken tacos at the event were provided by Fisherman’s Market. Former Ducks linebacker Robert Hamilton, who runs One Bad Dawg, provided hotdogs.

The director of the UO’s marching band, Eric Wiltshire, and his wife, Ann Wiltshire, enjoyed the beer release and food at the event. He said the beer is good.

“I predict they’ll sell a lot of it,” he said.

New bread bakery opens in Eugene

La Mouette Bread Shop is now open at 570 Lawrence St. in Eugene. La Mouette, which means “the seagull” in French, is baking French-style breads with natural, wild yeasts. The bakery will offer a variety of sweet and savory breads and quickbreads including pretzels, muffins, baguettes, orange blossom brioche rolls and country-style bread loaves, among others.

The owners, Liz and Guillaume Gras, first started baking in Arizona before moving to Yachats, where they sold their bread at Bread and Roses until recently, when they relocated to Eugene.
