Popular Eugene chocolatier Euphoria Chocolate launched Oregon Popcorn Co. June 13, with six flavors available at its three retail locations.
Gourmet popcorn is one food that fits into what industry insiders call “elevated snacking,” a growing national trend.
“I was just looking at the market and feeling like we were ready for an expansion and a change, and exploring what were the best options for us,” said Bonnie Glass, owner of Euphoria Chocolate. “We’re good at flavor, and I love popcorn as a snack. I wanted flavors I wasn’t able to buy, and I thought, well, I could make it myself.”
Oregon Popcorn Co.’s initial lineup features five flavors: Big Cheese, Big Cheese Jalapeño, Classic Caramel, Kettle Corn, Movie Theater (butter and salt), and Duck Food (yellow and green, flavored with vanilla).
“The caramel is really what I want in a caramel corn, and I’m not able to get it with some of the (products) that are out there,” Glass said. “I want it to be rich and buttery and to have some depth of flavor, but I don’t want it to be too sweet.”
For Glass’s signature caramel flavor, she finishes the popcorn with Eugene-based fair-trade and organic Singing Dog Vanilla, and butter from Junction City’s Lochmead Dairy.

Launching later will be Buffalo Bleu, which is a zippy mixture of blue cheese and buffalo sauce. The Track Town Trio will be a mix of Classic Caramel, Big Cheese, and Kettle Corn. Looking ahead, Glass and the team are also developing some Oregon-centric flavors such as marionberry and hazelnut. They’re also playing with other flavor ideas.
“We’re known for our spirits, so we’re playing with those to see what we can come up with in the future that really highlights those, and definitely are looking here in Eugene for what those ingredients will be,” she said.
The bags of popcorn vary by volume but the pricing will be $4 to $9.99, depending on flavor and size.
“We’re taking the same approach we do with everything else,” Glass said, “which is it’s worth the money for better-quality ingredients to get a better-quality product.”
Part of the impetus to enter into the popcorn market was that chocolate sales take a dip in summer.
“The hope is that popcorn is a lot friendlier and stands up to the heat a little better, and that it will be something that brings people in year-round,” she said.
