QuickTake:
Oregon's star quarterback will return to the Ducks for his redshirt junior season after passing on the NFL.
Just after the Peach Bowl, Dante Moore sidestepped a question about where his future will be and instead talked about what can come from it.
“I’m excited how much I can learn from this game,” Moore said after Oregon’s Peach Bowl loss to Indiana, “and learn from my future coming up.”
Well, we know where that future is now: Moore has made his decision.
He and the Oregon Ducks are going to run it back.
Oregon’s star quarterback has decided to return to Oregon for his redshirt junior season, spurning the NFL to instead play another year of football in Eugene.
Moore is coming off his first full season with the Ducks, where the 20-year-old passed for 3,565 yards, 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions across 15 starts.
Moore was the projected No. 2 pick in April’s NFL Draft — behind Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza — in the latest mock draft done by CBS Sports.
“When it comes to making my decision, I want to feel most prepared and (do) what’s best for my situation, especially as a quarterback,” Moore said on ESPN. “With my decision, it’s been very tough. I prayed a lot about it. I talked to a lot of people — my mentors — and people I just look up to. And with that being said, of course I’ll be coming back to Oregon for one more year, being able to play for the Oregon Ducks and of course reach our goal of being national champions.”
Moore’s return comes as a surprise only because of Oregon’s movement in the transfer portal since the Ducks’ season ended against Indiana in the Peach Bowl. On Monday, Oregon landed former No. 2 recruit in the country Dylan Raiola, a quarterback who started 20 games over the last two seasons with Nebraska while passing for 4,819 yards, 31 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. He threw for 2,000 yards with 18 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2025 before his season ended with a broken fibula suffered against USC on Nov. 1.
And now, Oregon finds itself in a bit of déjà vu at the position.
It was two years ago that Moore transferred to Eugene — after starting five games at UCLA — to sit and develop behind then-Oregon starter Dillon Gabriel. Gabriel would go on to finish third in Heisman Trophy voting that season before departing for the NFL.
In stepped Moore, who said his time behind Gabriel was imperative to his success in 2025.
“I always wanted to push Dillon to better himself, and he could push me to better myself,” Moore said last spring. “I wasn’t a mouse. I came in talking like I was going to be the starting quarterback. We pushed each other in the weight room, in the facility — just every day.”
Moore will again have plenty of talent to work with in 2026. Oregon is set to return sophomore receiver Dakorien Moore, tight end Jamari Johnson, running back Jordon Davison and center Iapani Laloulu.
