I’ve known Sean VanGordon for years, both in politics and as a good friend. One thing has always stood out: He listens.
I’ve seen him take meetings others wouldn’t — people some leaders dismiss or avoid entirely. When I asked him why, he said he wanted to understand their perspective. That’s who he is. He’s genuinely curious and willing to listen, even when it’s uncomfortable. That’s leadership.
At a time when it feels like too many people are talking past each other, or refusing to engage at all, VanGordon shows up differently. He treats people with respect and takes the time to hear them out, whether he agrees or not. We talk a lot about policy and results. But character, kindness and compassion should still guide how we lead and how we treat each other.
VanGordon brings that approach. And right now, that’s the kind of leadership we need.
