As the 2026-27 school choice window opens in Lane County, our community has a unique opportunity to reflect on the diverse educational landscapes available to our children. Choosing a school is more than a logistical decision; it is about finding a community where students can thrive both academically and culturally.

Hé Lín Chinese Immersion Elementary School is proud to contribute to Eugene’s vibrant educational fabric. In an increasingly globalized world, language immersion programs offer Eugene students a distinct advantage, fostering cognitive flexibility and a deep appreciation for global perspectives right here in Lane County. According to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, language learning correlates with higher academic achievement and improved problem-solving skills.

To help families explore these opportunities, Hé Lín Chinese Immersion has been hosting a series of school-choice tours since Jan. 13. We also invite the entire Eugene community to join us for two flagship events that showcase the spirit of our school.

First, this evening from 6 to 8 p.m., we are hosting a Chinese Bingo Night and School Tour (the school is located at the Kennedy Middle School campus, 2200 Bailey Hill Road, in Eugene). This fundraiser is a fun, accessible way for prospective families to see our school in action, enjoy great food, win prizes and meet our community.

Second, we invite all prospective families to our 2026 Lunar New Year Celebration on Friday, Feb. 20, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. This event features lion dancers, a children’s program and a silent auction. It is a wonderful way for Lane County residents to celebrate the Year of the Horse and support local education.

The in-district school choice window runs from Jan. 15 to Feb. 15, with the out-of-district window following in March. I encourage families to come to our tours to see how immersion education can benefit their children. Let’s continue to support the diverse options that make our local school districts so strong.
