The 2025 City of Eugene Community Survey is a way for community members to share their opinions on how the city is doing. The online survey is open through July 31 and results will be presented to the City Council in September.
I filled it out but have my doubts as to whether it will do any good.
When you look at Eugene’s general low voter turnout, I feel it will be the same with this. People have gotten to the point where nothing changes. So why bother?
Yes, we have a minority of citizens who care. But do we want the minority making the decisions?
Also, councilors don’t have any input into the survey. Why not? Apparently, that is the way it always has been. This must change.
Results will provide city leaders with “key insights into what matters most to community members.”
Yet, the big-picture issue is not being addressed in this survey. Why hasn’t the city addressed the “whatever” attitude that this community has? Voting is low, so why would people fill out this survey?
People don’t listen to the news, so do they really know what is happening in the community?
I’m in Ward 5, yet Councilor Randy Groves in Ward 8 took the time to explain issues and how the city operates. I can’t help myself when I ask: “What? You’re kidding. Really?”
What is the city doing that people don’t trust? Ask that question.
Communication is a two-way street. We are not there with our municipal government.
Members of the minority are the only ones who would do this survey, vote and care. It’s best to find a way to get the majority on board, this survey is not doing that.
I say knock out the middleman. Let the Council prepare the survey.
Bottom line: The city’s survey is not accomplishing anything until the big-picture problem is solved.
