Labor law violations at Kkoki Korean BBQ in the Santa Clara neighborhood of Eugene included failing to pay overtime to workers putting in more than 40 hours in a week, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
The restaurant chain, which also has locations in Salem and Portland, has been hit with $38,416 in civil penalties for “repeated and willful violations,” the Labor Department said in a news release Wednesday, April 15.
Among other violations, the restaurant had a 15-year-old employee regularly working more than three hours on school days. Also, a restaurant manager unlawfully took part in an employee tip pool.
The Labor Department’s investigation recovered $58,569 in back wages for 32 workers, according to a news release.
“Moving forward, our business understands the laws regarding overtime, employee tips and better workplace practices for minor employees,” said Heyou Raymond Lin, the authorized representative for the Eugene business according to Oregon Secretary of State records, in an email.
