QuickTake:

There’s a free-to-the-public typewriter extravaganza on the riverfront. An evening of jazz punk is coming to WOW Hall. Here’s what to get into this weekend.

Happy post-election, Lookout members. Once you’re done checking out the latest on results so far (we have up-to-date results and analysis for you to read up on) you can start planning what your weekend looks like. Let’s get into it:

Pop-up roller rink at the Farmers Market Pavilion

Every time I see roller skaters at the Farmers Market Pavilion, I am heartened by so much flat concrete public space for them to roll across, and also saddened to know my clumsy self would break an ankle maybe 3 minutes into skating. If you’re more graceful, you should stop by downtown Eugene tonight after work and get rollin’.

  • When: 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, May 21
  • Where: The Farmers Market Pavilion and Plaza, 85 E. Eighth Ave., Eugene
  • How much: There’s a $10 entry fee for all, and $5 to $10 on a sliding scale for rental skates.

Pure Prairie League at the McDonald

A crew of bummed-out cowboys is rolling into town. Ohio-born country rock band Pure Prairie League is stopping by the McDonald this week, a Eugene stop in their sixth decade as a band to celebrate the release of their new album, “Back on Track.”

  • When: 7 p.m. on Friday, May 22
  • Where: The McDonald Theatre, 1010 Willamette St., Eugene
  • How much: Tickets are available online, ranging from $49.50 to $72.75.

Hannibal Buress at Olsen Run

Olsen Run Comedy Club and Lounge has been consistent with programming a slate of comedy heavy hitters and up-and-comers. There are still tickets available to see stand-up comedian Hannibal Buress at Olsen Run this Friday and Saturday, but his first two shows of each evening are sold out.

  • When: Tickets are still available for shows at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23.
  • Where: Olsen Run Comedy Club and Lounge, 44 E. Seventh Ave., Eugene
  • How much: Tickets are available online for $53

Queer Prom

This weekend’s queer prom at the Hybrid will have everything: a set from DJ Cumulus, karaoke with KJ Judy Jitsu, a face-painting booth (specializing in mustaches), pronoun button crafting, a piñata, photo booth, votes for prom court and best dressed, and plenty more.

  • When: 8 p.m. Saturday, May 23
  • Where: The Hybrid Gallery, 941 W. Third Ave., Eugene
  • How much: Tickets are on a sliding scale from $10 to $25; the event is a fundraiser to support The Hybrid becoming a nonprofit.

Emerald City Type-In

Have you ever wanted to (with proper training and reverence for the technology) absolutely go to town tapping away on a typewriter? The Eugene-based Society for the Appreciation of Typewriters is having a free to the public Type-In event.

Typewriters and paper will be provided to the public (though people can bring their own typewriters to join in), all skill levels are welcome and the event will come with basic typewriter crash courses.

  • When: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 24
  • Where: Downtown Riverfront Park, 701 E. Eighth Ave., Eugene
  • How much: Free

  • When: 7:30 to 11 p.m. Sunday, May 24
  • Where: WOW Hall, 291 W. Eighth Ave., Eugene
  • How much: Tickets are available online, for $10 in advance or $12 on the day of show.

Movies

Box office

I’m a Keke Palmer fan, so Boots Riley’s candy-colored new “I Love Boosters” has been on my watch list for a few months now. You could give Palmer a random page of the dictionary to read on camera, and she’d make it a must-see film; I’ve been looking forward to this revolution-fashion-capitalism spin with glee.

Playing at Metro Cinemas, Regal Valley River Center and Cinemark Eugene-Springfield

I’m a “Star Wars” novice, but even my steely heart sings at trailers for “Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu.” This film version of the “Star Wars” spin off series brings Pedro Pascal and a lovable baby Yoda puppet to the big screen.

Playing at Metro Cinemas, Regal Valley River Center and Cinemark Eugene-Springfield.
