A free, family-friendly event celebrating Dominican dance, music, and culture will take place on Sunday, Sept. 21, at the Farmers Market Pavilion in downtown Eugene.

Raíces de la Bachata invites the community to experience bachata, a popular partner dance from the Dominican Republic, with a full afternoon of activities from 4-7 p.m.

The event begins with an introductory bachata lesson led by local instructor Juan Garcia of Azúcar Cuban Dance y Más. No partner or dance experience is required. The afternoon will feature performances by internationally recognized bachata artists Edwin Ferreras and Dakhóta Romero of Areíto Arts, Portland-based dancers Jeff and Leah Velez of VelezNation, and Eugene’s own group, Mayimbito.

Latin American food and drinks will be available for purchase. The event is open to all ages.
