Thousands flock from far and wide to the Oregon woods to celebrate the Oregon Country Fair. We asked several to share their experiences from the three-day festival and what it meant to them.

Severin Steensen

“The celebration of creativity juices me out for the year. It gives me something to work on. It gives me hope.”

Julie Stoike

“It’s otherworldly. The energy, the consciousness, the love that people have — you’re buoyant when you come on the grounds.”

Quinn Holzhouser

“A fairy costume. I got it with my grandpa. We went to look for a glitter outfit, but there was only one in my size, and I didn’t like it. So we came back here, and I got this outfit.”

Brian DeWolf

“You know when you pull into the parking, and it says ‘Welcome Home?’ That is the truest thing it could possibly say. One of the things we love about fair is the reciprocity. So most of the flowers were given to us at our site. All things we got at fair.”

Tatum Dorn

“I went alone. It seems as though when you put yourself in an atmosphere so expressive and kind, it feels so welcoming. I didn’t know where I was going to sleep. I decided, I am going to meet someone or I am going to sleep in my car. I ended up meeting someone really incredible and she allowed me to stay with her. It is incredible.”

Kitty

“This is my fourth year. I went the first year with my mom. She was dying of cancer, and she fell in love with this place. She really loved the art and the atmosphere, and it was just a blessing for her. Something she did right before she died. This is a Remembrance Day for the past three years.”

Liz Kuhns

“You can be any sort of person you want to be here, and it is just welcomed with a giant hug. I feel this is a very deep reflection of myself.”

Aperture Hexagon

“Seeing people in authentic expressions of their creativity, feeling like they can just shed all of the outer world to find that freedom here, and find ourselves in each other, is such a beautiful experience.”

Aurora Quinn

“Fair means the allowance of anything. A free space to play. Everyone, including adults, gets to come back to their inner child.”

Ren Ray

“I just dress like this all the time. At fair, I get to express who I am without judgment. I am just excited that I get to be who I am. I get to receive compliments and give compliments.”

Joy Plummer and Tony Durfey

“It’s the happiest place on Earth. You can come and be part of the spectacle or observe the spectacle. Both are thoroughly enjoyable,” Tony Durfrey said.

“We’re both,” Joy Plummer said.
