Opinion Editor

Elon Glucklich is a lifelong Oregonian, with more than a decade of experience at news organizations around the state.

He started his journalism career as a reporter, photographer and video editor for the Klamath Falls Herald and News, then moved to The Bend Bulletin, where his coverage of the post-Great Recession foreclosure crisis and its legal fallout prompted changes to an Oregon foreclosure mediation law and earned an award from the Society of Professional Journalists.

From 2014 to 2019, he served as a business and government reporter for The Register-Guard, covering economic issues, the Springfield City Council and the Lane County Board of Commissioners.

Elon grew up in Ashland, Oregon, but has spent most of the past two decades in Eugene. He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Oregon in 2009, and an MBA from the university’s business school in 2021. While earning his master’s degree, he covered the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on rural hospitals as a freelance reporter for The Lund Report, a Portland-based nonprofit news organization.

As Lookout’s Community Voices/Opinion Editor, he envisions an opinion section comparable to The Register-Guard’s in its heyday, when it was common for the paper to receive more than 100 letters to the editor every week.

When he’s not at work, you might find him reading science fiction, tagging along on his wife’s project to visit every park in Lane County, or trying to manage his lovable but anxious chihuahua.
