World Athletics and USA Track & Field want track and field to be the fifth-most popular sport in the United States by the time the Summer Olympics arrive in Los Angeles in 2028.

The last 10 days of the World Athletic Championships were supposed to serve as a springboard. On the track, USA dominated. But away from it, there were some critical of the U.S.’s first-time effort hosting the event.
