Springfield police arrested a 60-year-old man from South Carolina within minutes of a reported bank robbery on Thursday, Aug. 21.

Police responded at 11:18 a.m. to a report that a man demanded money from employees at the Wells Fargo bank at 1600 Centennial Blvd., police said in a news release Friday.

The man reportedly said he had a weapon but nothing was seen by witnesses. He then walked away with some cash, according to police.

Five minutes later, police found a man matching a description of the suspect walking through an adjoining business parking lot, with “related evidence” connecting him to the robbery, police said.

Andrew Boaden McKissack has been charged in Lane County Circuit Court with felony second-degree robbery and misdemeanor second-degree theft. State law defines second-degree theft as involving property valued less than $1,000 but at least $100.

News organizations in South Carolina reported in 2018 on a man with the same name who police in Charleston, South Carolina, said called to turn himself in about two hours after a bank robbery in that city.
