Eugene’s annual National Night Out, an opportunity for county law enforcement agencies to meet with residents, is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 2, at PK Park, and is being held again this year in conjunction with the Eugene Emeralds baseball team.

Activities begin at 2:30 p.m. Sunday outside the stadium, 2760 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., and include participants from police departments in Eugene, Springfield, Cottage Grove and Junction City, along with the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, the University of Oregon Police Department, Oregon State Police and Eugene Springfield Fire.

In all, the free event includes nearly 30 booths featuring SWAT teams, bomb teams, K9 units, crisis negotiators, traffic officers, cadets and others.

The Emeralds are sponsoring 1,500 ticket vouchers allowing free admission to Sunday’s game.

And 500 hot dog vouchers, donated by the Eugene Police Foundation, will be distributed to National Night Out attendees.

The game pits the Emeralds — who transform on Sundays into the Monarcas de Eugene, a celebration of Latino heritage — against the Tri-Cities Dust Devils. The game begins at 4:05 p.m.

Taylor Montiban of New Hope Christian College will perform the national anthem and Reece Burke, the daughter of Eugene Police Department Deputy Chief Jake Burke, will throw out the first pitch.

Attendance at the game is not necessary to attend National Night Out. National Night Out is a community-building event that seeks to bring law enforcement officers and neighbors together in a positive setting.
