Popular local establishment Blended is set to expand with a second location in the 5th Street Market Alley, targeting an August opening, according to owner Marty Allabbad. The new spot will be next door to its current location in a spot formerly occupied by Bug’s Baby Boutique.

The new location will offer a streamlined menu focused on build-your-own salads, soups, and a selection of sandwiches, all designed for grab-and-go service. Staff will prepare the custom salad orders to accommodate having all of the ingredients in a small space.

“We’re not trying to compete with anyone else in the alley,” Allabbad said. “We want to give people something they want that is quick and fast.”

Blended makes all items in-house and has capitalized on the pistachio-based Dubai-chocolate trend, making many popular items such as pistachio waffles and crepes and pistachio cookies.

The business began as a partnership between Allabbad, who previously ran a smoothie and waffle cart near Pursuit Fitness in Springfield, and his business partner Alex Rosenbaum, who made baked goods.

Construction and permitting are underway, with the new location expected to open by late summer. The owners hope to capitalize on increased foot traffic before back-to-school season begins.
