Veterans Day is Tuesday, Nov. 11. The federal holiday honors the service of all United States Armed Forces military veterans.Â
Most government offices in Lane County will be closed Tuesday, as will banks and post offices. Mail will not be delivered. The public libraries in Eugene and Springfield will not be open and schools will not be in session. Food for Lane County and Catholic Community Services of Lane County will be closed. The University of Oregon will also be closed.Â
Lane Transit District will operate regular bus service and veterans can ride for free.
Regional events commemorating veterans
Nov. 8
11a.m., Veneta City Park and Community Center, East Broadway Street in Veneta, Veneta Veterans Ceremony. The ceremony will feature guest speakers, choir performances and a community hot dog lunch. Free.
Nov. 9
7 p.m., Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1155 President St., Eugene, Veterans Day Concert by Emerald Valley Voices. Free community concert honoring all who served.
Nov. 10
6 p.m., Cottage Grove Armory, 628 E. Washington Ave., Cottage Grove, Marine Corps Ball with all proceeds going to veteran services in Eugene. All branch service members are welcome, as is the general public.
Nov. 11
8 a.m., Oakridge Fire & EMS, 47592 Highway 58, Oakridge. Veterans Day Breakfast free to veterans and their families, $10 for nonveterans to raise money for a House Fire Victims Fund.Â
9 a.m., Springfield Justice Center, 230 4th St., Springfield, Veterans Breakfast with the Mayor, co-hosted by the city and American Legion Post No. 40, will include remarks by the mayor followed by a continental breakfast. All veterans and community members are welcome.
11 a.m., VFW Willamette Post 293, 1626 Willamette St., Eugene, Veterans Day Observance with refreshments in the upstairs ballroom. All are welcome.
11 a.m. Creswell VFW Post 4039, 111 South 10th St., Creswell, Veterans Day Observance with the Creswell Community Singers.
1 p.m., Florence Christian Church, 990 Second St., Florence, Florence Veterans Day Parade, parade route down Bay Street through Historic Old Town.Â
2 p.m., Sweetbriar Villa assisted and memory care community, 6135 E St., Springfield, Veterans Day Celebration, pinning ceremony in honor of their veterans.
