Three Lane County high school baseball teams remain in the hunt for a state championship, and all three have semifinal games Tuesday, June 2.
Here’s the rundown:
5A
Thurston, fresh off a road upset over No. 1 seed Corvallis, travels to Summit on Tuesday for a semifinal.
The No. 8-seeded Colts, 19-10 overall, have won nine straight, including the 6-3 quarterfinal win against Corvallis and a 4-2 first-round victory against Bend.
The Storm are seeded No. 4 and bring a 22-7 overall record into the semifinals. The team beat Eagle Point 8-0 in the first round and followed up with a 5-1 win over West Albany in the quarterfinals.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday at Summit High School.
The winner advances to the championship game Saturday, June 6, against either Ridgeview or Central. The time and site of that game are yet to be determined.
North Eugene, another 5A team, qualified for the postseason but lost 9-1 to Silverton in the first round. The Highlanders finished their season with a 21-6 record.
4A
No. 3 Marist Catholic travels to No. 2 Scappoose for a Tuesday semifinal. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
The Spartans (23-4 overall) rolled to a 12-1 five-inning victory Friday over No. 11 Phoenix and defeated Philomath 7-6 in the first round. The team has won 13 games in a row and hasn’t lost since an 11-1 loss at Junction City April 24, in the second game of a doubleheader.Â
The Indians (22-6) have won 11 of their last 12 games. They beat North Bend 11-2 in the first round and Stayton 5-4 in the quarterfinals. Marist played a doubleheader at Scappoose April 4 and lost both games, 7-2 and 10-9.
The winner advances to the championship game Saturday, June 6, against either Tillamook or No. 1 Henley. The location and time of that game are to be determined.
Elsewhere in 4A, Junction City qualified for the postseason but was upset 1-0 by Estacada in the first round. The Tigers finished their season with a 20-7 record.
3A
No. 3 Creswell entertains No. 7 South Umpqua-Days Creek in a semifinal scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The Bulldogs (24-5 overall) earned their spot in the semis with a 12-0 blistering of No. 6 Burns-Crane Friday. The team, which earned a bye in the first round, beat McLoughlin-Griswold 7-2 in the second round. Creswell has won 19 of its last 20 games.
South Umpqua also earned a first-round bye and then defeated Horizon Christian of Tualatin 9-3 in the second round and Cascade Christian 7-6 in the quarterfinals.
The semifinal marks the third time Creswell has played the Lancers (20-9); the Lancers prevailed 6-0 at the Creswell Invitational March 26, but the Bulldogs bounced back with a 4-3 victory May 20 at South Umpqua.
The winner advances to the title game, scheduled Saturday, against either Warrenton or Taft. Time and location have yet to be determined.
Elsewhere in 3A, Elmira qualified for the postseason, but lost 5-4 in the first round against McLoughlin-Griswold. The Falcons finished with a 15-11 mark.
Other results
In 6A, Sheldon and Willamette advanced to Friday’s quarterfinals, but both lost: Jesuit nipped Willamette 12-11, while No. 1 seed Clackamas dispatched Sheldon 13-3 in five innings.
Sheldon defeated Mountainside 9-1 in the first round and Lake Oswego 11-3 before its quarterfinal loss. The Irish finished their season with a 20-9 mark.
Willamette defeated Ida B. Wells 10-5 in the first round and Roseburg 8-7 in the second round before its quarterfinal loss. The Wolverines finished with a 19-10 record.
In 2A/1A, Lowell and Oakridge qualified for postseason play; both won in the first round, but then fell in the second round to higher seeds.
Lowell edged Nestucca 2-1 in a first-round game May 25 but lost 11-1 to No. 1 Kennedy. The Devils finished with a 17-10 record.
Oakridge beat Portland Christian 9-8 in the first round but then lost 17-0 to No. 2 Crosshill Christian in five innings. The Warriors finished with a 17-11 record.
