QuickTake:

It’s a busy week for Lane County boys basketball teams, and three games on the schedule feature squads jostling near the top of the conference standings.

Three boys basketball games over the next week showcase conference leaders battling for an early advantage in the standings. Here’s the roundup:

Mohawk at Eddyville Charter, Thursday, Jan. 29, 5:30 p.m.: Both teams are 3-0 in 1A-3 Mountain West Conference play, but Eddyville’s Eagles have the better overall record (15-9) and carry a No. 12 Oregon School Activities Association ranking into Thursday’s game. But the No. 39 Mustangs (9-9 overall) can earn a big win by pulling off an upset.

Lowell at Trinity Lutheran, Friday, Jan. 30, 6:30 p.m.: The No. 4 Devils (4-1 in 2A-6 East Cascades Conference play, 17-2 overall) would appear to be the underdogs in this Friday game against No. 1 Trinity Lutheran (5-0 conference, 18-1 overall). An upset win would push Lowell into a tie for first place in the conference.

North Eugene at Thurston, Tuesday, Feb. 3, 7 p.m.: Thurston’s Colts are 5-0 in 5A-2 Midwestern Conference play (13-4 overall) and are ranked No. 4 by the OSAA. But the Highlanders (4-2 conference, 16-3 overall) are right behind, with a No. 5 OSAA ranking. A Highlanders win would tighten the race for the league lead.
