Juanita Avila, a 47-year-old Cottage Grove resident and business owner, said she doesn’t understand why U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers would drag her from her minivan and hold her down on the street. Now, she is experiencing pain and emotional trauma. Jaime Adame talked with Avila yesterday.

A suspect charged with a burglary that Eugene police say targeted an Asian American household now faces federal prosecution along with six co-conspirators.

In April, the nationally acclaimed CAHOOTS program, which offered an alternative to police response for people in crisis, ended in Eugene. Now, city officials are looking for ways to bridge service gaps and take the burden off police and fire responders. Ben Botkin reports.
