Good evening,

If you’re looking for a reason to stay up all night, you’re in luck. There’s a blood moon tonight, or more scientifically speaking, a lunar eclipse. That’s when the Earth’s shadow falls on the moon. According to NASA, it will start to be visible around 1 a.m. By about 3 a.m., the moon should be fully in shadow (that’s when it looks reddish). And it’ll all be over by 6 a.m., at which point you can make coffee and get ready for work.

On to the local news.

Nurses at RiverBend hospital delivered their own vote of no-confidence in two of PeaceHealth’s Oregon executives, as fallout continues from PeaceHealth’s decision to cut loose a local group that has provided care in the emergency department for 35 years. Doctors at the hospital delivered a similar no-confidence vote last week. Ashli Blow continues her coverage of this story.

The musical Broadway adaptation of “Beetlejuice” is coming to Eugene for a six-day run. Our arts writer Annie Aguiar interviewed one of the actors in the traveling production, who says enjoying the musical does not depend at all on whether you are deeply familiar with the original Michael Keaton movie, have never seen it, or did see it but utterly confuse it with the Patrick Swayze flick “Ghost.”

Ninkasi Brewing’s production area was damaged in a fire over the weekend. No injuries were reported.

Our government reporter was up in Salem today where the Legislature is slouching toward the end of the session. Ben Botkin reports on a bill crafted in part by Eugene lawmaker Floyd Prozanski that would regulate how automated license-plate reader cameras could be used in Oregon. Some concerned citizens think the bill falls short.

Legislators are also working to plug some budgetary holes, in both the general fund and the Oregon Department of Transportation. As part of the budget-writing, many vacant state jobs are likely to remain vacant. Our partner Oregon Capital Chronicle reports.

And in our opinion section, strong feelings about RiverBend’s ER continue:

  • A letter writer says the change from the local doctors group to out-of-state ApolloMD is a “betrayal” of the mission of those who founded the hospital.
