About 35 veterans and supporters attended a flag ceremony Tuesday, July 14, at the Veterans Memorial Building in Eugene to celebrate the United States’ 250th anniversary.
The event featured the raising of three different flags: an American flag; a flag honoring prisoners of war and those service members who are missing in action; and a 250th anniversary flag for America.
Speakers at the event said the three flags were hoisted in the order of America’s accomplishments: On the top of the flagpole flew the American flag, honoring the United States’ formation as a country. The middle flag, the familiar POW-MIA flag, honored those who have sacrificed for the country. The flag on the bottom, created for America’s semiquincentennial, celebrates the hard work leading to 250 years of freedom.
The event was sponsored by Eugene’s American Legion Post 3 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 293.
