A 42-year-old Coburg man riding a motorcycle died after being struck by a vehicle Saturday, July 4, in Eugene’s Bethel neighborhood, police said.

Justin Wayne Arbogast died after being taken to a local hospital, a Eugene police spokesperson said.

Police responded at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday to reports of the collision at Royal Avenue and Legacy Drive.

Motorcyclist deaths in Eugene have seen an uptick in recent years, with three fatalities in 2025 and also in 2024, according to a city report that described a 50% increase compared to the 2022-2024 three-year average.

Last year, there were 65 motorcyclist deaths statewide, according to preliminary data from the Oregon Department of Transportation.
