Nathan Lichvarcik, a longtime criminal law attorney with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Eugene, will be appointed a Lane County Circuit Court judge, Gov. Tina Kotek said Monday, June 22.
Lichvarcik will fill a vacancy created by the upcoming resignation of Judge Debra Vogt. Lichvarcik’s appointment by Kotek is effective Aug. 1.
Lichvarcik has worked in the Eugene U.S. Attorney’s Office for 14 years and has been the branch supervisor for the Eugene and Medford offices since 2020. He also has taught trial advocacy at the University of Oregon Law School for the past 10 years, according to a news release from Kotek’s office.
Vogt has served as a Lane County Circuit Court judge since January 2007. Before winning election to the bench, she worked as a deputy district attorney in the Lane County District Attorney’s Office. She was most recently reelected to another six-year term in 2024.
As an appointed judge, Lichvarcik will have to stand for election on the next primary election ballot if he wants to complete the term.
Circuit court judges in Oregon are paid $204,060 annually.
