The Friday, June 12, meeting of the City Club of Eugene will spotlight public oversight of the city’s police department — how complaints are investigated, how residents can get involved and how the system affects local law enforcement.

The meeting begins at noon at the WOW Hall, 291 W. Eighth Ave. Club meetings are open to the public and free to attend.

Friday’s meeting will include perspectives from three people involved in oversight of Eugene police:

  • Craig Renetzky, the city’s independent police auditor, will explain the workings of his office, including investigative processes and case dispositions. Renetzky was appointed to the police auditor post in August 2025. He served nearly 16 years as a Los Angeles County deputy district attorney and was involved in more than 100 jury trials.
  • Elise Josephson is the incoming chair of the Civilian Review Board, a seven-member volunteer board appointed by the City Council to provide independent oversight of the police department. An attorney working in criminal litigation, she served in the U.S. Air Force and worked at the Oregon Legislature.
  • Chris Skinner, chief of the Eugene Police Department, will discuss how the oversight system affects his department. Skinner was named Eugene police chief in 2018. He also has served as chief in Richland, Washington, and with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office and the Hillsboro Police Department.

Friday’s program will be streamed live and the video will be available on the club’s YouTube channel and Facebook page. The meeting also will be available as a club podcast.

Club meetings also are rebroadcast Mondays at 7 p.m. on KLCC, 89.7 FM.
