QuickTake:

Bikes will be collected by Shift Community Cycles on Saturday, Jan. 17, at all Market of Choice locations in Eugene. Kids bikes and adult bikes will be accepted.

Has your child outgrown a bike? The Eugene nonprofit group Shift Community Cycles will find a new home for it.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, Jan. 17, Shift will host its “Free Bikes 4 Kidz” donation drive, collecting donated used bicycles at all Market of Choice locations in Eugene. The organization also will accept adult bikes. Donated bikes don’t have to be in perfect condition.

Shift volunteers will clean, refurbish, repair and test the bikes before giving them back to others in the community.

Shift aims to give out 600 bikes in 2026, to kids or adults in need — especially once demand for bikes grows with warmer spring weather.

The Saturday donation drive “will help Shift prepare for the spring rush of bike requests from partners in the community,” said Ari Saliba, director of programs for Shift. “We are excited to give old bikes new life through the power of community volunteers.”

Shift Community Cycles is looking for volunteers of all abilities and skill sets.
