QuickTake:

When you’re done seeing “Wicked: For Good” two or three times, here are some events you’ll want to check out in the days ahead.

Happy Thursday, Lookout readers. It’s that strange pre-Thanksgiving period where it feels like it should be the holiday already, but it just isn’t here yet. (I’m sure this extended cold I’m battling has something to do with time feeling fake these days.)

There’s an event coming up I wanted to flag before it sells out: The Art House is having a 50th anniversary screening of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” on Saturday, Dec. 6. Tickets are $25 and include a reception with surprise guests and panels discussing the film’s Indigenous representation and the character of Chief Bromden before the screening.

But let’s get into the agenda items for this week:

🎹 Eugene Symphony’s “Rhythm of the Americas”: Grammy-winning pianist Michelle Cann joins the Eugene Symphony for a tour of American music as part of its Masterworks series, with the evening’s program featuring Cann playing Florence Price’s Piano Concerto and Maurice Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G, with the symphony orchestra also playing Gabriela Ortiz’s “Téenek” and Duke Ellington’s “Harlem Suite.”

  • When: Thursday, Nov. 20, at 7:30 p.m.
  • Where: The Silva Concert Hall in the Hult Center in Eugene.
  • How much: Tickets are available online and start at $22.

👵 “Mrs. Doubtfire” at the Hult: This touring production of Broadway’s “Mrs. Doubtfire” opens at the Hult Center this Friday. I interviewed Craig Allen Smith, who plays struggling actor Daniel Hillard and fictional Scottish nanny persona Euphegenia Doubtfire, ahead of the show opening, who told me about how his own background as a divorced dad informed some of his acting in “Mrs. Doubtfire.”

  • When: There will be five performances this weekend; the show opens Friday, Nov. 21, at 8 p.m.
  • Where: The Silva Concert Hall in the Hult Center in Eugene.
  • How much: Tickets are available online and start at $39.

🍽️ Men at Werk: Feast Mode: Dinner is served, and they’re serving. This drag king show at the Hybrid Gallery features performers from Eugene and Portland taking the stage. I’m a big fan of the pun that it’s billed as an “all you can slay buffet.”

  • When: Friday, Nov. 21, at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m.
  • Where: The Hybrid Gallery, 941 W. Third Ave., Eugene.
  • How much: Tickets are available online for $15.

🎻  Dirty Cello: This last-minute concert was added to Dirty Cello’s West Coast tour, right before an evening show in Salem. San Francisco-based band Dirty Cello is fronted by Rebecca Roudman, who studied to enter the classical symphony world but instead turned to blues and rock, without leaving the cello behind.

  • When: Saturday, Nov. 22, at 3 p.m.
  • Where: 255 Madison, 255 Madison St., Eugene.
  • How much: Tickets are available online for $10.

🖤 Emo Nite at WOW Hall: Break out the heavy eyeliner and 2000s nostalgia. This Los Angeles-born themed party is making a stop in Eugene this weekend, one of those “touring” parties that happens in multiple cities at once so that, as their Instagram story promises, “every night is Emo Nite.” (I’m sad this is scheduled for Saturday, so I can’t easily make a Taking Back Sunday joke.)

  • When: Saturday, Nov. 22. Doors open at 9 p.m.
  • Where: WOW Hall, 291 W. Eighth Ave., Eugene.
  • How much: Tickets are available online for $18 in advance and $25 on the day of.

❄️ Holiday Market opens: The holiday market opens for the season this weekend, with live music, oodles of artisan vendors and the International Food Court. While you’re out shopping, if you see any vendors that catch your eye in particular, drop me a line at annie@lookoutlocal.com — I’d love to write about them.

  • When: The market is open on Saturday, Nov. 22, and Sunday, Nov. 23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Where: Lane Events Center, 796 W. 13th Ave., Eugene.
  • How much: Free to attend, but you should be prepared to spend some money.

🎥 What’s playing at the movies: I have two recommendations in particular for the week ahead.

  • 💚🩷 “Wicked: For Good” descends from a bubble into theaters this week, and reviews are strong for the second half of the Wicked Witch of the West’s saga. But particular praise has been shared for Ariana Grande’s performance as Glinda the Good Witch. It’s “Wicked,” it’s wonderful and cheesy and about the power of friendship, I’ll be sobbing for the second half. Playing at Metro Cinemas, Regal Valley River Center and Cinemark Eugene-Springfield.
  • 🎭 Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value” opens this week, an exciting release for “The Worst Person in the World” fans like me. It’s about the complicated relationship between a film director (Stellan Skarsgård), his two estranged daughters, including the actress Nora (Renate Reinsve), and the American actress (Elle Fanning) playing their dead mother once Nora turns down the role in her father’s new movie. Tricky stuff, but Reinsve is a masterful actress with that material. Playing at Metro Cinemas
